Short, Sharp, Stocked (no longer)

As announced earlier today on the Bindlegrim facebook page it was cleaning day in the studio (beneath monsoon skies) and a few items (the last of their kind) were gathered up for an official 3rd annual summer sale - see preview image below. Note this will be a very quick and small sale starting tomorrow (8-2-2015) finishing at the end of this one week of listings. End results of this sale will be used to fuel the 2015 releases which should be out the beginning of September!

Image features black silhouette package of 6 Creeps, a 12-sided paper lantern Harvest Moon (with Jack O'Lantern pumpkin couple) and a lampshade called Traditional Grim in classic orange and black.

The sale will at least include the last available of some items shown above: 1 package of 6 silhouette Creeps (2013), a 12-sided lantern "#9 - Harvest Moon" (2014), and a 12-sided lantern "#10 - Traditional Grim" (2014). More details will post very soon!

Halloween Trunk Show 9

LRaise your spirits this autumn in the Rockies with whispering golden aspens, historic Colorado ghost towns, and the 9th annual Halloween Trunk Show in Denver, Oct 11th.

Bindlegrim will be there, and was honored to once again have an opportunity creating graphics for this year's event, the ninth! Postcards should be mailing soon, and there was an additional order for some posters of the front image (below)... (which perhaps may find their way as door prizes at the event...? We shall see...)

The ol' grim one is scheming, and packing up a large bindle of goods for the show - lanterns, cards, books, and the newest creations like the eight-limbed monster votive, and  a lantern wall hook. And while some of the free goodies (running low) were pulled from Bindlegoods to make sure stock was available for Denver - all purchased orders from the website will still be honored in the meantime. Please also note that the Bindlegoods online store will cease shipping Spooklights for the current season around mid-October (to ensure all orders are out the door before the Halloween holiday) so please plan orders early... or see you at the show!!!

Grim Bindles (Past and Present)

Week three (of four) for the Bindlegrim sale - and this week really dug deep into the bindle for something old (cards from 2004), to something new (two one-off hybrid lanterns) all ending this coming Sunday August 3rd, 2014.

Spooky holiday creations - gift boxes, lanterns, books, postcards - by artist Bindlegrim 2014 summer sale

1) Vintage-Style HALLOWEEN 9 Card Series: ghosts, pumpkins, bats, haunted houses

Bindle' really scoured the crypt for this set created in 2004. The photo-collages feature original photography and digitally created elements. The background scenery followed a personal journey across the U.S. from the swamps and abandoned house of the Southeast, to the mysterious ghost towns and lonely deserts of the Southwest, to the spooky drizzle and moss-covered roofs of the Northwest. The ghost character was shot in studio, as were some of the props like German-esqe Jack O'Lanterns and bats, and later all was brought in the computer for an artistic integration. You can see more images in this earlier blog entry, or in this flickr set: Hallowe'en.

2) Vintage-Style Christmas WINTER LIGHTS 6 greeting cards, old electric decor

The imagery here of vintage Christmas lights dating from 1920's to the 1960's, and were photographed by the artist in the studio, with graphic design added later in graphic programs. Cards are approximately 4.25" wide by 5 1/2" tall. More images can be seen in this flickr set: Winter Lights.

Series of 6 art photography cards featuring vintage lights from the 1920s to the 1960s.

This listing is for vintage-style 8-sided lantern hybrid created to test Spooklights for Halloween 2014. The lantern panes are like those for the 12-sided lanterns (and therefore feature the pumpkin-and-leaf motif in the corners). The imagery was for the only non-limited run of lanterns from 2012 known as "The Horrid Decor" and this one features orange and black prints on vellum.

Halloween Lantern Parade (week 2)

The first set of lanterns have vanished around the corner - and here comes the next parade participants of week 2. (Following is more from the summer lantern sale liquidating Bindlegrim's studio stock of vintage-style 2012 lanterns.

But first, how about some decorating ideas with black crepe paper and a Bindlegrim lantern, displayed for autumn with rusty antique objects, surplus wooden boxes, vintage lighting,  and an authentic early century paper Jack O'Lantern pumpkin?

Lantern pictured above is from Series #6 The Horrid Decor, #2 Pus & Bruise on Ghost Skin (unsold on Etsy, now in the permanent collection of the artist). However, there is another one of these designs listed this week in Hitchcock Blue on Ghost Skin (see below).

Here is stock as it stands as of this blog posting July 10th, 2013 :
  • #1 The Pumpkin Dream (of 5) - Orange (Sold Out)
  • #2 The Cornish Litany (of 9) -  Purple (Sold Out) - Green (Sold Out) - Orange (stock:2)
  • #3 The Haint House (of 5) - Orange (Sold Out)
  • #4 The Space Witches (of 5) - Orange (stock:2)
  • #5 The Pumpkin Patch (of 6) - Orange (Sold Out) - Yellow (Sold Out) - Red (stock:2)
  • #6 The Horrid Decor (not limited and unspecified but only a few made)
  • #7 Gruss von Krampus (of 3) - (stock:1)
And here are the following 2 lanterns (from the list) that will end Sunday, July 14th, 2013.

1: The Space Witches: (one of 2 left) - The imagery for this lantern was based on Fifties plastic candy containers of witches and rockets, expanded to see what happens when witches (and their cats) reach outer space - like white mice running loose inside your space helmet - or what if your cat gets stuck on the moon?! It's a cyclonic cavalcade of electrifying horror! (A personal fave - I did a poor job of letting these go last year).  BINDLEGRIM Vintage-Style Lantern #2/5 WITCH & CAT in SPACE Steampunk Halloween

2: The Horrid Decor: (a non-limited edition but last of these on hand) - This series was not originally created as a limited edition, however there were only about 5 made, and is each a bit of a rarity since the colors and window-pane materials varied. The third in colors blue & white were inspired by some spooky illustrations found in old Hitchcock short story collection from the sixties.  Vintage-Style Lantern #3 THE HORRID DECOR Blue-White Halloween Design BINDLEGRIM

Colorway: Pus and Bruise

Follow up photos for the last entry, The Horrid Decor (Unlimited Bindle), with photographs taken as both moody night shots, and as revealed by the light of day --- and with the actual lantern now constructed adding a link to availability of the first produced in this style posted on ebay.

Paper and vellum lantern made in USA for vintage-style Halloween effects by Bindlegrim

In the first few photographs, the purple, green, & black color scheme of the lantern is lit with an LED tap-light that was purchased from the local hardware store, and this type light really matches the ectoplasmic tones of this colorway, much better than an orange-tinted flicker bulb.

And to reveal the structure of this vintage-style Halloween lantern, here are some images during daylight (with random backgrounds). I may have to spend some time arranging this lantern the way I might picture this, fabulously styled for an olde Halloween party --- hung in the center of a room, above a table, with streamers radiating in all directions into the room like a huge spider web.

And finally just a couple of image showing how this lantern compacts flatly for storage. And it's a good way to see the imagery created for this lantern (all at once) that features six vintage-styled pumpkins (based loosely on a design by Dennison) each repeated twice.

For more images of this item, be sure to peruse The Horrid Decor on flickr. And when these lanterns arrive at the Bindlegrim shop on etsy, I'll be sure to post another entry. In the meantime, are you entertaining any thoughts about your most horrid Halloween decor this year?

Punkins, Shows, and the Bindlegrim Interview!

Change is afoot...! and something is happening to the pumpkins!

In the garden the sunflowers have reached their full height, somewhere around an amazing 9 feet tall, filled with a plethora of blooms in different sizes and sometimes odd shapes, covered with pollen laden bees in a frenzy, and birds beginning to raze certain blooms that were once full of seed.

And not too far off, the Connecticut pumpkins are transforming from a green-vein texture to a bright orange... standing out brightly in the summer-dried lawn near the pale Lumina Pumpkins and the yellowish hybrids. And, no joke, as I write this, the clouds have rolled in and a quiet thunder accompanies a small bit of rain.

Summer is coming to a close folks here at Ichabod's Cottage and here are just a couple of photos:

This much orange means Halloween Artist Shows start next month!

There is a frenzy building in the Halloween community as of late. In particular, Halloween artists are putting together the last touches to work in their studios, for the various Autumn shows that will be taking place soon - including, just to name a couple, the Ghoultide Gathering and the Halloween Trunk Show. More news to follow in the coming month.

   ~~~
And Bindlegrim is out stirring up the word of impending Halloween 2011:
Yes, the clock is ticking down to Halloween celebrations!  And as of this writing, if you click over to Halloween Alliance, the countdown clock notes only 76 days left until Halloween!
If you are not overcome with total panic, and if you read further, as I most absolutely hope you do, you may find that Mr. Bindlegrim was lurking about in a very sincere pumpkin patch  up in the northern lands, and for such a usually retiring character, seems to have been tempted by the flavor of some very delicious pumpkin juice, to share a few words about his history, inspirations, influences, and future plans...
Be sure to read: In the Pumpkin Patch with Mr. Bumble Bindlegrim | Halloween Alliance.
