As of today Bindlegrim has packaged and mailed the first dozen Bindlegoods orders and ran out of posted stock. So I checked materials in the studio and made sure it was okay to stock another 12 of both the Spooklights lamp shade and the candle holder for further availability of these vintage-style decorations on the Halloween store. If you missed the announcement from the Bindlegrim facebook fan page - the Bindlegoods storefront is open for business.
One of the things I love about the maker process is the challenge of designing not only the puzzle-like components to a single Halloween lantern, but making all these various completed objects, (like the shade and base), fit together to create expanding display possibilities. And there were a couple in the Future Release section of the website that needed a little extra work...
This weekend the daunting task of re-designing the "octopus lantern" was finally approached, and happy to report the mock up is even more sturdy than the first. As well, the lamp post, expiring on the drawing board, had a newly hand-cut mock up created today. While it had been originally designed solely as a lamp post, its similarly formed component structure also allows it to be used with the lamp shade. I envision a forested table display of Halloween trees...

Spooklight Calendar 2014
If you are following Bindlegrim on facebook, flickr, or twitter you may have already caught a glimpse... but the ol' grumpy grim is indeed happy to unveil here even more preview images of designs coming out of the shadows for 2014...!
The new Spooklights series revisits and expands upon the 12-sided vintage-style lanterns of 2012, and this time around offers a variety of lantern/shade configurations with optional accessories that make these instantly ready for display. Please note that pane content imagery is forthcoming. For working models (shown here) some older imagery from a non-limited lantern (The Horrid Decor) was used for photographic purposes.
First on the calendar is the release of a table tea-light lamp (seen in the shadows above) that is shown above with the base and four-sided shade. The current idea is to release the line as components, the foreseeable decorating choices follow --- #1: the shade (which could be hung over your existing flicker-bulb lighting or placed on the shown base) or #2: the base (which can be used with the shade or simply alone as a candle holder). No clear photos yet of the different base designs, but below is a glimpse of an early mock-up version to show the actual material without the murky shadows.
Second release during the 2014 calendar year will most likely be the Spooklights votive holder (which is akin to a brazier in its design). The various designs of the base extend eight legs to include such creaturs as octopi or spiders. The one shown here is the Cthlulu-esque sea-life version.
Third and/or Fourth on the list of the Spooklight series will be a combination of lantern and a wall post to provide a means of hanging it from your best location on the wall...! The 8-sided lantern is simply a smaller configuration of the 12-sided lanterns from 2012, and will offer new content for the panes. Bindlegrim is particularly excited about the horizontal hanging-post, as this will be a means to display vintage or non-vintage lanterns alike; imagine these down a hallway or bookends to a door or window. Below is a working mock-up (so exact visuals/mechanics may vary from the final product).
Well, that's the news for now - but this is only the beginning! If you were a fan of the Creeps from last year you will realize that one character The Haunted House was missing, and this largest of the set should also appear this year with even more vintage-style diversity to come. Stay tuned through one of these Bindlegrim media outlets: facebook, flickr, or twitter.
Cheers 2014!

Halloween Gives Me the Creeps!
There has been a big sigh of relief here in the Bindlegrim labs - as the Creeps have walked off the production slab, and nestled snug in sealed packages ready for new homes. As of tonight there are 3 listings at 3-day auctions on ebay for your consideration, just in time to arrive before Halloween week! Oh, but what shall it be? There are Creeps (Shadow Edition), Creeps (1st Color Run), and Creeps (12-sided lantern). Well obviously the main idea here appears to be giving you the Creeps! Links are listed below in order of first to the last listed.
1: Creeps (Shadow Edition) Full set JOL, Witch, Bogle, Cat, Devil, Clown, as stark soot-faced minimalistic design versions. Silhouettes lend to their mystery and fit a classic to modern Halloween decor style... with translucent facial features that glow in the dark. The diecut characters are made of 2-play acid-free museum board (same as Bindlegrim 12-sided lanterns): Vintage-Style Halloween CREEPS SOOT FACE Candy Box Lantern WITCH CAT DEVIL CLOWN

3: Creeps: (12-Side Lantern) - A very special limited edition return of the Bindlegrim 12-sided vintage style Halloween lantern with Creeps imagery! If your counting this very special 5/5 limited run is the eighth Bindlegrim 12-side lantern and was unplanned but the idea spilled over from the candy container/lantern project seen above - here re-introduced on full-color translucent vellum scenes: Vintage-Style Halloween CREEPS 12-Side Lantern WITCH CAT DEVIL CLOWN SCARECROW

3: Creeps: (12-Side Lantern) - A very special limited edition return of the Bindlegrim 12-sided vintage style Halloween lantern with Creeps imagery! So that's all for now all you autumn-minded folks! Please accept the deepest of apologies for squeezing these in so close to Halloween... but auctions will end Wednesday, October 23rd, and I can be sure to ship on Thursday in time for next week's celebrations.

Halloween Lantern Parade (Magic Number 3)
Following is Week 3 of 4, and the next to the last listings of Bindlegrim's 2012 studio stock of vintage-style lanterns. If you're looking for good Bindlegrim buys these just might be the 2 weeks to watch -- as I
think things usually go for less on the tail end of an auction string...(?) and
with some of the last of these being repeats, of final stock, a good
deal could yet be had...!
Note: See most current #'s of stock at bottom of blog post. Here was stock (counting below featured listings of the week 3).
1: The Cornish Litany (From Ghoulies and Ghosties and Long-leggety Beasties and All Things that go Bump in the Night, Good Lord deliver us!)
Lantern (orange) with 12 postcards included, features a
host of scary characters in gothic settings terrorizing people. Bindlegrim began work on Cornish Litany
imagery in 2011 seen in Meister's collection "A Litany... Cornish and
Otherwise": CORNISH LITANY vintage style LANTERN (Orange/Black) & 12 POSTCARD SET Bindlegrim
2: The Pumpkin Patch (in red) was created with a focus on vine and leaf motifs to closely merge with the leaf and pumpkin design of the frame. The scene is midnight, deep in the brambles of the pumpkin patch, crawling with a number of spooky creatures staring back at you. And in the middle of all this one very scared little cottage: PUMPKIN PATCH (Red Black) vintage style HALLOWEEN lantern + STORYBOOK Bindlegrim
3: The Space Witches: (last one #3/5) - The imagery for this lantern
was based on Fifties plastic candy containers of witches and rockets,
expanded to see what happens when witches (and their cats) reach outer
space - like white mice running loose inside your space helmet - or what
if your cat gets stuck on the moon?! It's a cyclonic cavalcade of
electrifying horror! (A personal fave - I did a poor job of letting
these go last year). Last SPACE WITCHES Vintage-Style Lantern #3/5 WITCH & CAT Sci-Fi Retro Halloween

Pumpkin Dreams in the Haint House
Wow, time is really flying and Halloween countdowns are popping up all over! That's pretty scary as I'm frantically finishing the proof for Sketchbook of Straw, and still hoping for a late September or very early October release (and watch news for some free copies to be given away)!
In the meantime, Bindlegrim is offering some of the limited edition lanterns that popped up ever so briefly during this past year! Some of these were held back for the Halloween season, and with so many desirable Halloween goodies out there right now, this may be a chance to get them at a good price. These lanterns end on ebay this Sunday night September 16th.
1: The Pumpkin Dream #4/5 will be packaged together with the lantern and a copy of the book that gave it its name. This is one of three left with this particular pane imagery:
The lantern was inspired by scenes, characters, and dingbats from The Pumpkin Dream. And for images see the gallery below:
2: The Haint House #5/5 was the very first lantern Bindlegrim offered, and it was pretty ferociously swept up (perhaps given its creepy content), and this is one of only two left with this particular pane imagery:
This lantern was inspired by old vintage images of haunted houses - and there are 12 distinct images with doors, windows, and cracks, oozing with skeletons, ghosts, ghouls, witches, ghosts, bugs, snakes, zombies, and other Halloween oddities:
Wishing everyone a great autumn as you plan your decorating scheme for the upcoming holiday! I had a bit of fun creating this grouping here that features some of the many vintage items that have inspired me to create Halloween art, especially lanterns. Cheers!
